Kelly Marie Tran Geeks Out on THE STAR WARS SHOW

(I knew I would eventually be writing about this the minute my friend at Lucasfilm told me who was visiting his workplace two weeks ago.)

With nearly two weeks to go until STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is released, the actors and the other creative forces are starting to appear all over the place, promoting the film. That most certainly doesn’t leave out the weekly talk show, THE STAR WARS SHOW, as actor Kelly Marie Tran was this week’s special guest.

In co-host Andi Gutierrez’s words, Tran was a “gem of a human being” during the interview. She talked about who her character Rose Tico is (or at least, to the amount that she’s been approved to say), how she felt right at home with everyone while working on the film, and about a rather funny Pokemon Go prank she pulled on director Rian Johnson. Within recent months, she can be seen being her lovely, geeky self on Instagram, and she went in depth on just how much she wanted to be mentally ready before she started using social media; especially with her being attached to such a large franchise now.

Tran is the first Asian American woman to play a main character in a STAR WARS film, and I love how she and Gutierrez didn’t shy away from dwelling into that topic. Tran spoke of how in her youth, she always wanted to be someone else, because she never saw someone like her onscreen. To go from that to now hearing about little girls crying tears of joy over picking up a Rose action figure and saying that she looks like them must be overwhelmingly incredible.

These are just tidbits of the interview, but it’s really worth watching the whole thing. Tran’s interview starts at 4:52.
